Spud's Cleaning Tendencies

It's about sorting. Which requires the mental ability to organize and categorize random objects on varying attributes. No small task for such little minds!

And every time he sorts out one pile, that cheeky little Oscar dumps another pile with different criteria.

"Honey, it's time to turn the computer off now", I say.

He responds "I CAN'T Mama. Oscar keeps dumping more trash. I HAVE to organize it".

On a related note, since acquiring our new swanky vacuum cleaner last week, Spud has requested to vacuum the apartment for a minimum of 3 times per day. Second only to computer games, this kid loves to vacuum. Sorting trash and sucking up dust bunnies for fun? Man I love that kid.

Bobble Garland

Christmas in August. Oh why not? Spurred on by a little seasonal fabric design contest going on over at spoonflower, I thought I would throw a design into the ring. Here's the 8" x 8" design. Check out my profile at spoonflower if you want to see what it looks like repeating.

And here's a screen capture of it a little closer.

My design has officially been nominated for Christmas Fabric Design over at spoonflower. The contest closes on Wednesday, September 9th. Don't be shy. Check out all the nominees and vote. You get to pick two of your favourites! Wish me luck.

Monochromatic Snack Bento

From the Top
· wee tomatoes from our deck container garden [they taste like candy!]
· hard boiled egg, cut criss-cross
· carrot skewers, simmered in pineapple juice/maple syrup [I did this last night while cleaning the kitchen]
· cheddar sticks

There's meant to be more colour variety in a traditional bento ... but sometimes it just works out like this.

Snack Pack

Today's wee snack pack with ham + grape skewers. This was packed with love ... and probably a wee too much of sodium.

Blueberry Orange Flax Muffins

Continuing to chip away at that delicious blueberry bucket we have. We made 12 muffins today, half are earmarked for some friends we are hanging with today and the other half are for the freezer ... hello breaky-on-the-run.

Muffin Batter
2 C. all-purpose flour
3/4 C. sugar
1 T. baking powder
1 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
1/2 C. yogurt, plain
2 t. orange rind, grated
1/4 C. flax oil
2 eggs, lightly beaten
2 C. fresh blueberries

Sugary Topping
1/3 C. brown sugar
2 T. butter, soft
1 T. orange rind, grated

Pre-heat oven to 400°F (200°C). Prepare 12 muffin cups.

In a large bowl, put in flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt into large bowl and mix until blended.

In a medium bowl, combine yogurt, orange rind, oil and eggs into another large bowl until smooth.

Pour wet mixture over dry mixture. Pour in blueberries. Stir until just combined.

Spoon batter into the 12 muffin cups.

In a small bowl, mix sugar, butter and orange rind for the topping. Dollop each muffin cup.

Bake for about 25 minutes or until golden and springy to the touch.

10 lbs of Blueberries

These yummy blueberry pancakes that Hubs made this morning put a little dent in the giant bucket. Yum! And he made some extra medallion ones for bentos too.
